TICKET   5 comments

Here’s my ticket from a performance by my very favorite actor in the whole wide world……Al Pacino.  He’s starring on Broadway in Glengarry Glen Ross, the Pulitzer Prize winning play by David Mamet, along with a couple of other great actors.  The part he’s playing (Shelley Levine) was originally played in the 1992 movie by Jack Lemmon and the part Al played in the movie (Richard Roma) is being played by Bobby Cannavale.  (His character in Boardwalk Empire just got killed off last night so I’m glad he still has a paying job. lol)   On a separate note, I actually got to meet Al Pacino some years ago in London.  We went to a performance of American Buffalo and met him afterwards.  He was so charming, he greeted me by kissing my hand!  I guess it was the whole European experience that got to him.  Oh, and I STILL haven’t washed that hand!!!!!  Hoo ah! 😛

DOMESTIC   2 comments

Aside from being home to two of my favorite bloggers, Wisconsin lays claim to being the only state in the US that has a state Domestic Animal.  In 1971, “America’s Dairyland” added the Dairy Cow to its state animals.  The state animal is the Badger,  the state wild animal is the White-tailed Deer and the state dog is the American Water Spaniel.  Say cheese!

This is definitely the most colorful and unique fence I’ve ever come across.  It must have been a labor of love!

WIDE ANGLE   3 comments

This is a wide angle shot of the USS Ling which was donated to the Submarine Memorial Association, a non-profit organization formed in 1972 with the purpose of saving it from the scrap yard.  They petitioned the Navy to bring the boat to Hackensack, New Jersey to serve as a memorial “…to perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country”. Many citizens and corporations contributed time, professional services, and funds toward the restoration of the Ling. The boat arrived at its present home in New Jersey in January 1973, where it  has been restored to near-mint condition—scrubbed, painted, and polished for public tours—through the efforts of the association. The compartments have been refurbished and outfitted with authentic gear that recreates the bygone era of the World War II battle submarine. It is now the centerpiece of the New Jersey Naval Museum.  (Please enlarge to get a better look at the sub.)

CHARACTERS   4 comments

Here are all three of the new balloon characters that made their first appearance in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade:  Papa Smurf, Hello Kitty (or as Ron says, Kitty Hawk) and in the rather unfortunate position of being deflated, The Elf on the Shelf.  Poor Elfie!!!  😦
